CHADIAN TRUCK DRIVERS DEFY NGOUNDERE SECURITY FORCES

16/02/2012THE INCIDENT TOOK PLACE AT THE NGOUNDERE RAILWAY STATION WHEN A COMMERCIAL BIKE RIDER OF CHADIAN ORIGIN WAS TAKEN FOR QUESTIONING, ACCUSED OF HAVING STOLEN FUEL FROM ONE OF THE TANKS IN THE STATION.

As the second suspect was about to be arrested, the Chadian truck drivers went on the offensive and attempted to prevent the arrest.

The Police force was called in to ensure order, but they were not given the opportunity to do so.

They became the target of the truck drivers and a violent incident ensued.

By 10 PM, some 15 people, ten of whom were policemen sustained serious injuries.

The Police Superintendent of the Ngoundere Central Police station is part of the wounded.

Apart from the injuries, considerable material damages were also registered.

Three police cars were destroyed. Administrative authorities and the judiciary are presently investigating the incident.
