The first ever Cameroon Olympic Awards ceremony has been organised in Yaounde. Some 22 sporting federations presented their best three athletes. The best were finally selected from this sample.
Thomas Essomba, a boxer was crowned best sports man for 2011 in the male category while, Aureli Ndongmo, an athlete was best in the female category.
Each of the athletes received a trophy, a diploma and a cash prize of Five Million francs CFA.
Other athletes who also distinguished themselves through out the year also received compensation.
The Cameroon Olympic Awards organised by the Cameroon Olympic and Sports Committee also acknowledged past glories like Roger Milla, Patrick Mboma and Sarah Entonge.
The President of the National Olympic and Sports Committee, Kalkaba Malboum and the Minister for Sports and Physical Education each encouraged Cameroonian athletes to strive for excellence.
