Dieticians and nutritionists in an open public campaign create awareness on the dangers of consuming salty meals.

The aim of this 24 hour exercise in the economic metropolis of Cameroon, was to  help prevent and treat illnesses by promoting healthy eating habits and suggesting diet modifications.

‘We must reconsult our old culinary and eating habits. Cooking Food with salt and seasoning is not the least good for one’s health. Its a health treat in so many ways, and has many risk factors including high blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose levels, smoking, inadequate intake of fruits and vegetables, overweight, obesity and physical inability’ Dr Samuel FOTSO said during the open round table conference Friday in Dakar, Douala, Cameroon.

The Dieticians and Nutritionists adviced the running of  food service systems for institutions such as hospitals and schools and the promotion  of  sound eating habits through education, as performant ways of reaching the target audience.

The population was called upon to plan food and nutrition programs to create awareness on the essence of consuming little or no salt. The Awareness event organised by the lone electricity distribution company in Cameroon, AES Sonel continues Saturday April 14th 2012 in the Nation’s political capital.
