FENASCO B GAMES END:FAR NORTH CROWNED OVERALL CHAMPION

The 7th edition of the primary school games dubbed FENASCO B has ended.

The  Far North Region was crowned overall best.

The host region won 38 medals; 10 medals in Gold, 8 in silver and 12 in bronze. The Centre and Nord regions occupy the second and third positions respectively.

The Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Youssouf Hadjidja Alim while chairing the closing ceremony announced that the next edition of the games shall be organized in Douala.

She saluted the conviviality and the warm reception the people of the North Region reserved for the visitors, warmth that contributed to the remarkable success of the games.

Apart from complaints about athletes who were over-aged, there were no major incidence despite  the extremely hot temperatures.

Cotonsport of Garoua has qualified for the 8th final of the African Champions’ League after beating Heartland of Nigeria 1 – 0 in Garoua.

The Cameroon team lost during the away leg played in Nigeria by 2-1 but qualified because the goal scored in Nigeria.

At home day twelve games of the Elite One Professional Football League were played on the 7th April 2012.

Renaissance of Ngoumou recorded a second consecutive victory on Saturday against   title holders Panthere in Yaoundé making them nursing hopes of getting out of the relegation zone.

The current wave of victories has been attributed to the new technical team.

In the meantime, the Njalla Quan FC played a 0-0 draw with Sable of Batie while Aigle and Canon ended on a 1 – 1 tie.

In other news, the Minister of Sports and Physical Education has announced the payment of the first installment of government subvention to the Professional Football League estimated at 165 million CFA francs to Presidents of Elite One and Two clubs within April.

Each Elite One club is expected to receive 30 million CFA francs while Elite two clubs receive 15 million CFA francs each. The money is intended to improve the remuneration of players and coaches.

Some two thousand pupils from the ten regions of the country have begun competing in individual and team sports at the finals of the FENASCO B school games in Garoua.

Basic Education Minister, Youssouf Adidja Alim opened the three day competition. At the end of the games, the best athletes shall receive medals in the different disciplines.

The extreme hot weather in the North Region has prompted organizers of the competition to reschedule the time for the different encounters.

Most of the games take place between 7am to noon and from 4pm to 6pm.
